1981 FORD ESCORT Mk3 1.6 GHIA
Just in under preparation
We are really pleased to offer this outstanding Escort Mk3 1.6 Ghia
The third generation Escort was launched in September 1980 and was a completely new “wheels-up” design, that was conceived as a hi-tech, high-efficiency vehicle that would take on the VW Golf. The biggest changes from the Mk2 were the move to front wheel drive with hatchback body and the new Escort quickly became Britain’s bestselling car.
Covered only 53,000 miles from new and finished its its factory colour of Crystal Green
Purchased from its original Priest owner in 2008 with just 39,000 miles on and needing some love but by no means a rotbox! (photos in the file)
Subject to a total rotisserie split restoration by its second keeper over a period of around 8 years, fully photographed and finally back on the road in 2015 ready for its post restoration MOT.
Everything was kept to original specification apart from the radio/ cassette and the addition of a later five speed gear-box to make the car more capable on modern roads. Panels were replaced as required and finished in the original colour of Crystal Green – underside included as can be seen in the photos.
We are informed that the early cylinder head (casting number is 81SM6090) is rare and highly sought after due to it being suitable for tuning/ fitting of 45mm valves.
‘MOX’ then changed hands a couple of times from 2015-2021 when it was purchased by a long term Ford Enthusiast, covering around 3,000 miles since its restoration, today ‘MOX’ presents beautifully.
